Barber Chair

Barber Chair
A Koken Barber Chair. It is white in colour with a chrome pedestal. The footstool has a plaque that reads “Reg. U.S. Pat. Of Koken Companies, St. Louis, USA.” In the early 1900’s, a German immigrant named Ernest Koken developed this type of Barber Chair which featured a hydraulic operated chair lift with a lever which allowed barbers to control it. Chairs like this would have been used locally in places such as the Princess Beauty Parlour.
